Dick Van Dyke 86 marries 40 year old make artist
Dick Van Dyke, the Mary Poppins star marries his 40 year old make-up artist at the age of 86. Dyke and Arlene Silver marry on the Leap Day, February 29 at a Malibu chapel near the actor’s home.
Van Dyke said that he first met Silver at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2006:
“I was in the green room and she passed through and I was bowled over by her beauty.”
He then hired her as his makeup artist after 6 years they decided to get married.
‘Kind of on the spur of the moment, we decided Leap Day would be the best time to do it,’ Van Dyke says.
Dyke’s earlier marriage lasted for 36 years and ended in divorce; they have four children. About the second marriage the delighted Van says:
‘I’m not a loner, I have to have a life partner and I found the perfect one.’
“I’ve never seen him happier. She adds a lot to his life,” says Bob Palmer.
Silver is equally happy to have him in her life:
‘He’s the happiest person I’ve ever met,’ she says. ‘He’s just got an infectious spirit.’
